Featured Speaker, world-renowned inventor and humanitarian, Dean Kamen, one of the most prolific inventors of our time, Founder of DEKA Research and FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology). His talk “Equipping & Inspiring the Next Generation” taugh about FIRST®, a program that experientially engages kids from 6-18 in robotics competitions that teach the principles of science, engineering, technology and math (STEM) as well critical life skills for personal and professional success. The day 3 keynote was Anne Wojcicki, CEO and cofounder of 23andMe, with a insightful look at “the future of genes.” She spoke to the questions, “is DNA the programming language of the future?”, touching on the future of biotechnology and the role of genetic knowledge in our lives.
Our day ended with none other than NBA star Shaquille O’Neal! He talked about his new interest and pursuits in wearable technology, which looks to be one of the biggest areas of emphasis at the 2014 SXSW Interactive Festival. In this conversation with Rick Valencia of Qualcomm, Shaq reveals his plans for dominating this brave new world of wearables. We can’t believe how quickly this year’s SXSWi is going by! We already have so many amazing take-aways from the conference, but we know that there is so much more to come!
