The Sketchnoter’s Guide to SXSW 2013

We’re packing our markers and notebooks and getting ready to head south for SXSW Interactive! As the official cheerleaders for SXnotes, we’re very interested in all the sketchy happenings at this year’s conference. Below is a collection of tips for before you go, as well as some sessions and events you won’t want to miss.

Right now…

  • Join the SXnotes Flickr group – in addition to the Twitter action around SXSW, Flickr will serve as a virtual gallery for all of the awesome SXSW sketchnotes.
  • Set up your Twitter searches. Make sure you save searches for #SXnotes and #mSketchnote so you can stay in the loop with all of your fellow sketchnoters.
  • Practice those high-tech icons. How many ways can you draw an iPhone? Go!
  • Get inspired. Great resources include the Sketchnote Handbook and just browsing things on Pinterest, like hand-drawn alphabets.

Friday

  • Plan your schedule. Friday’s a great time to settle in. Grab the schedule app and start perusing, maybe doodle some title ideas. If you create an account on SXSW.com, you can share your schedule with your friends. Here’s ours.

Saturday

  • Follow Mike Rohde around. Saturday is definitely Mike Rohde day and, as the author of the Sketchnote Handbook, a highlight for the sketchnoting community. You can choose from mentor sessions, a reading, book signing and special Moleskine-sponsored meetups today.

Sunday

  • Come to the Sketchnote Meetup! ImageThink is thrilled to host this year’s official Sketchnote Meetup. 12:30 PM at the Create Meetup Tent, 101 Red River Street. You can RSVP via Facebook if you like. Don’t forget the clocks spring forward on Sunday!
  • Catch the keynote. Tina Roth Eisenberg of the SwissMiss design blog and Creative Mornings is the keynote presenter today, and not only is she a Brooklyn buddy of ours, she’s going to talk about the importance of side projects to your creative success.

Monday

Tuesday

We can’t wait to start synthesizing all this great content into sketchnotes, and we’re excited to meet fellow visual notetaking and visual thinking enthusiasts. Follow @imagethink for up-to-the-minute news about where we are and what’s going on. See you at SX!
